PPK Timber Designs Ltd was formed in October 2012 after a change from the previous PPK Timber design partnership that had been running since 1990. Under the new leadership of the sole director Paul Kemmish new investment was immediately made with the latest up to date Autocad 2013 software and a whole new cad design environment created.
Leading market specialised timber frame software from Consultec was introduced to produce our timber frame design drawing packages which was a real boost to our customers giving them the factory and site drawing information they required at the time they required it for fabrication and site erection of the kits themselves. Within 2 years a further two specialised software packages were up and running this time again from leading specialists Mitek Industries, this gave us a further spread for our clients to produce the production information they needed from either design software all within the company design offices in Weston super Mare. The use of both suites along with the Autocad 2013 software gave us the scope to service most timber frame manufacturers across the UK.
In June 2014 we introduced further design software for our roof and floor design work. The Gangnail roof truss and eco ( metal web joists ) design software enables us now to accompany our timber frame design packages with full manufacturing roof and floor designs geared to the customers that require these elements designed by us in house.
We have produced many other design schemes from commercial and educational buildings to residential and housing association work for many clients right across the UK. We produce Glulam building design work and hybrid structural work for closed panel designs and sips ( structural insulated panels ). We have experience in bolted timber feature work such as trusses and oak frames and have extensive steel work design experience for our more complex structures that have support and racking issues that needed addressing.
We have a team of highly qualified and experienced design consultants that have practiced multi storey timber frame structural design work for many years as well extensive roof truss and engineered floor design work and they all have an excellent trade knowledge for timber engineering and steelwork design.
Because we use the latest cad software we are already BIM compliant for design work that will become enforceable for all design schemes in 2016.
Having spent many hours actually on the factory shop floor, site erection of kits and attending design meetings over the last 30 years Paul Kemmish and the design team has built up an extensive knowledge of our clients needs and logistical problems they face with handling, weights of components, Health and Safety and cutting / production issues as well the site erection process of building the kits and issues faced on site, we are not just sat behind computers here we have a real industry knowledge that helps us formulate the best practice designs we complete.
Deadlines for factory and site deliveries are always in our thoughts as these become driving factors that are critical to our clients so our focus is always geared to providing key element designs for components with long lead times and cutting to the shop floor as well designs for site ready for kit erection in time.
We work closely with experienced timber frame structural engineers to provide structural calculations and NHBC certification for our timber engineered structures and these will satisfy local authority control and warranty the structure itself.
Finally we are members of two most prominent trade associations which are Trada ( Timber research and development association ) and also the STA ( Structural Timber Association ) Both these trade bodies are leading knowledge centres for timber engineering and associated trade suppliers which provide invaluable support and industry experience / knowledge.
